Postcards relating to the First World War service of Captain Percy George Rupert Parkes, 23rd Infantry Battalion, 1915-c. 1919

These blank postcards collected by Percy George Rupert Parkes provide a visual insight of the various locations he visited during his active service overseas. They correspond to specific events he experienced such as a stopover at Colombo during his voyage to Egypt, dinner with officers of the 23rd Infantry Battalion at Shepheard's Hotel in Cairo just prior to departing for Gallipoli, and his convalescence at Alexandria after contracting paratyphoid and enteritis. The postcards also reflect his movements on the Western Front in France and Belgium, his secondment to the British Army at Cambridge, and include additional mementoes in the form of post-war photographic postcards of captured German field artillery.
