History / Summary

The United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) was established on 25 October 1999. It's purpose was to administer the Territory, exercise legislative and executive authority during the transistion period and support capacity-building for self government. The operation ceased on 20 May 2002 when East Timor became an independent country. The Dili Surf Life Saving Club (DSLSC) was established by the initial members of the Australian National Command Element East Timor (ASNCE-EM). The Club was affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia and official shirts, shorts and caps were sent from Australia. The DSLSC provided social and recreational activities for ASNCE-EM members and guests, such as a bar facility, movie and hot dog nights, beach days and Australia Day celebrations.
