Description

Colour bond steel sign painted royal blue with a white border on each side. Printed on this is badge of the Royal Australian Regiment in yellow, green, white, black, blue, tan, red and pink. White lettering beneath the badge reads,'1st BATTALION GROUP (AUSBATT 8)'. Details of the sign's use are written in red texta on the back. A hole has been drilled in each corner to allow the sign to be attached to a wall. A black and gold manufacturer's sticker 'GRACIE' is attached to the lower border of the sign.

History / Summary

This sign was used at the Company Forward Operating Base (FOB) used by members of the First Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) at Batugade, East Timor, between May and November 2003. A Company, commanded by Major Brian, was stationed there between May and July, and D Company, commanded by Major Nash, between August and November. 1RAR was part of the 8th rotation of Australian troops to East Timor, known as AUSBATT VIII, which included support troops and specialist members of the RAN and RAAF.
