Shared Experience: Paris liberated
Colahan’s lively painting with its colourful palette captures the joyful activity of a liberated city. Clearly evident is the sheer exuberance of the Parisians as they cycle through the streets, now free of German occupation and oppression. French flags are flying, the young and old have returned to the streets, and all are enjoying spring and their new-found freedom. Colahan’s tonal-impressionist style is entirely appropriate to this subject, which he has rendered so delightfully.
