The stained-glass design
The Emotion Poppy design was inspired by the 15 stained-glass windows in the Hall of Memory, the heart of the Australian War Memorial.

The 15 stained-glass windows in the Memorial's Hall of Memory
Each of the 15 windows typifies one of the quintessential qualities displayed by Australians in war and on operations, manifestations of the Australian character.
There are 5 figures in the south windows, representing personal qualities: resource, candour, devotion, curiosity and independence.
The 5 figures in the west window represent social qualities: comradeship, ancestry, patriotism, chivalry and loyalty.
The 5 figures in the east window represent the fighting qualities of youth and enterprise: coolness, control, audacity, endurance and decision.
