Study for 'Taking Old Vickers Position, Bobdubi Ridge, 28 July 1943'
Description
The nature of this work suggests that the artist drew it in his studio as a study for the large work titled 'Taking old Vickers position, Bobdubi Ridge, 28 July 1943', perhaps using a model to pose for him. However, it is possible that the work was drawn earlier, as the decision made in December 1959 to commission Hele to paint the large canvas was based on he fact that he already had sketches of the scene in his possession (see file no: 895/002/067).
