Description
Letters relating to the First World War service of Brigadier General Harold Edward Elliott, 15th Brigade. The letters cover July 1916 - December 1918 detailing; capturing Germans; feeling he has had too many quarrels to be considered for promotion; attending a school of machine gunnery; the weather in Belgium; working on the rear lines in case the Germans break through; fears of fighting on the Italian front in the future; his stay in a 1600s french chateau; the weakening of the Germans; the chateu being hit and having to remove all of the antiques inside; building safe accomodation; getting wounded while approaching a tank underfire over an urgent matter; extracts from captured enemy orders showing how concerned the Germans were about their tactics; the persistant pain of his wound; the praise and recognition he has recieved from his generals; a memorandum on the history of the villages where he has visited.
