Studio portrait of 406649 Flying Officer (FO) Robert Edmund 'Ed' Guthrie, RAAF, a pilot attached to 14 Operational Training Unit RAF. A native of Claremont, WA, Guthrie worked as a school teacher prior to enlisting on 3 March 1941. FO Guthrie was listed as missing presumed dead, aged 29, when his aircraft failed to return from an operation over Germany on 1 August 1942. His name is commemorated at the Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany. FO Guthrie's brother, WX19860 Lance Corporal Hugh Kitchener Guthrie, 2/28 Battalion, was killed in action in New Guinea on 20 October 1943.
