Portrait of WX19860 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Hugh Kitchener Guthrie, 2/28 Battalion. A native of Claremont, WA, Guthrie worked as a clerk prior to enlisting on 25 February 1942. L Cpl Guthrie was killed in action in New Guinea on 20 October 1943, aged 27. L Cpl Guthrie's brother, 406649 Flying Officer Robert Edmund 'Ed' Guthrie, RAAF, was killed during air operations over Germany on 1 August 1942.
