Description
A postcard depicting a marionette of Saddam Hussein playing a violin, set against a recurring pattern of bombs. The image is based on a toy from the artist's collection. After the Second World War, the Allies occupying the defeated country of Germany encouraged the return of industries. Toys produced in the American sector of Bavaria up to the 1950s carried the wording 'Made in the U.S. zone'. Jonathan Tse's artworks recontextualise these historic toys with a political response and wry humour, reflecting on the realities of conflict in our time, particularly the War in Iraq.
