Collection relating the the Second World War service of SX4452 Corporal Brian Charles Castle, 2/27 Battalion, Papua and Australia, 1942-1945, 2005.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Wallet contains a nine page diary written by Castle while his platoon was separated from 2/27 Battalion and lost in the New Guinea jungle during the Kokoda Trail campaign, dated from Sunday, 6 September 1942 to Sunday, 20 September 1942. Castle mentions the shortage of food occasionally supplemented by wild birds and pigs, the close proximity of enemy troops, trekking through dense jungle, the support of indigenous peoples, and the relief at reaching an Australian Army camp. Also includes Castle's AAB83 Record of Service Book, Certificate of Discharge [dated 25 August 1945] and a newspaper supplement [dated 24 April 2005] featuring a story about Castle's experience with a transcript of the diary.
