Pair of suede leather and Gore-tex ankle boots with black rubber toe caps. Each boot has four pairs of riveted steel eyelets and three pairs of steel hooks to retain the black nylon laces. The ankle support section is made of dark brown leather. A brass plate impressed with the word 'GORE-TEX' is attached to each boot at the outer ankle. The manufacturer's name 'zamberlan' is impressed into the suede of each outer heel, and also appears as a raised rubber image in black, white and red on the tongue. The soles are of black rubber, over an inner layer of brown rubber. Both sections of the sole are marked with the trade name 'vibram'. The boots have removable insoles, and are lined with Gore-tex fabric. Three manufacturer's labels are attached to the top eyelet of the right boot.

History / Summary

Zamberlan hiking boots were issued to 239707 WO II Laurie Cunningham, and to all members of 4 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Commando) who were embarking for service in the Middle East, February - May 2003. Owing to the climate in Kuwait and Iraq where this force operated, the boots were not used, regular Australian Army issue boots being preferred. Cunningham, who had previously seen service with 6RAR in East Timor, enlisted in the Australian Army in July 1990.
