Nauru Island, South Pacific. 1945-09-30. Captain Hisayuki Soeda and Lieutenant Commander Kishimoto, the senior Japanese Army and Naval officers on Nauru Island, signing the Instrument of Surrender which had been read to them by Brigadier J.R. Stevenson, Commanding 11 Australian Infantry Brigade. The surrender ceremony was held aboard Royal Australian Navy frigate Diamantina.
