Private Leonard Aspinall Stephens (750, 30th Battalion) was born in Waverley, NSW, on 29 October 1899. He was working on a farm when he enlisted in July 1915. Leonard was killed in action on 20 July 1916 during the battle of Fromelles, and is commemorated on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, France.
