Private Edward James Powell
Description
Private Edward James Powell (3579, 13th Battalion) was born in Berrigan, NSW, in 1898. He was working as a carter when he enlisted in July 1915. Edward was killed during the battle of Pozieres, on 14 August 1916. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. His mother wrote that he signed on to “get away” and that he was “loved by all who knew him and deeply missed”. He was 17 years 10 months of age at the time of his death.
