Private Charles William Sturdy Tate
Description
Private Charles William Sturdy Tate (4606, 54th Battalion) was born in Marrickville, NSW, and was apprenticed to a lithographist when he enlisted in August 1915. Charles was reported missing during the battle of Fromelles, 19-20 July 1916. In August, it was reported that Charles had died of wounds on 24 July 1916 while a prisoner of war in Germany. He is buried in the Douai Communal Cemetery, Douai, France. Charles’ mother later wrote that he was 17 years and 6 months of age at the time of his death.
