Private William Gannaway
Description
Private William Gannaway (3034, 3rd Pioneer Battalion) was born in Sebastian, Victoria, but was working as a miller’s assistant in Perth when he enlisted in October 1916. He was killed at Armentieres by a high explosive enemy shell on 24 May 1917, only three days after joining the battalion. William is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, France. His mother wrote that his age was 17 years 6 days.
