The blockhouse, El Alamein / Mark Johnston.
Abstract
To the Australians it was the"blockhouse"; to the Germans "the hut". For several days an Egyptian railway workers' building was at the centre of a tiny area in which the outcome of the great battle of El Alamien hung in the balance. It was not a fortification, but a hospital, and to men of both sides it became an oasis of humanity in the midst of carnage.
