An army for an empire: Britain and Australia's military forces, 1901-03 / John Mordike
Abstract
At the close of the nineteenth century Britain, in response to her imperial ambitions, attempted to consolidated the empire and enhance her military capability by establishing an imperial military force with assistance from the colonies. John Mordike considers how, despite Australian political leaders' strong opposition to these proposals, the first national organization of Australia's military forces designed them to fit British imperials needs, rather than those of Australia.
