Abstract
This article is part of a larger study Dr John McCarthy is undertaking on the subject of Australia and the Empire Air Training Scheme. Here he examines why such a disproportionate number of Austalian airmen fought in Europe rather than in the Pacific theatre during the second world war, and why they did so under British, rather than Australian, command.
