In this article the author gives a brief history of the Nurses in the First World War. The author describes what treatments were given to wounded soldiers by nurses from the time they first encounter them when urgent surgery was carried out in the casualty clearing stations.  The author concludes by stating that the grit, determination and compassion of the Australian's First World War nurses continued on in the Second World War.
