Studio portrait of 2171 Private (Pte) Hector Donald McDonald, 2nd Battalion from Tarcutta, NSW. A 25 year old horse-breaker prior to enlisting on 13 May 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney on 16 June 1915 aboard HMAT Karoola. After joining the battalion at Gallipoli on 6 August 1915, he was killed in action at Lone Pine within three days of his arrival. Pte McDonald is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
