US landing Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville
Description
In the early hours of 1 November, 1943 the US 3rd Marine Division commanded by General Turnage made a landing on the north shore, Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville. The landing force was transported by Admiral Wilkinson's Task Force 31 comprising of 12 transports, three squadrons of destroyers and one division of light cruisers.
