Platypus II
Description
The Platypus series of missions were carried out during the Second World War by members of the Services Reconnaissance Department (SRD) to support Operation Oboe 2, the Allied landings at Balikpapan, Borneo. Platypus II mission, led by Lt Robert Tapper, was to extract local peoples in sea going Prahaus (boats) in the Balikpapan area and also if possible from Balikpapan for interrogation. There were four missions 20 and 24 June 1945 using Catalina’s from the 7th US Fleet.
