Description
This honour was awarded for participation in the defence of Rabaul and Blanch Bay, New Britain. The Australian defenders, Lark Force, were unable to repel the superior force of the Japanese; Australian command broke down after one day. Japanese troops also landed at Kavieng, New Ireland, also overwhelming the Australian defenders.
