Barum

This honour was awarded for participation in the fighting around the village of Barum during the operations in the Markham–Ramu Valleys and Finisterre, in New Guinea. Following the capture of Shaggy Ridge, the Australians pursed the Japanese to Madang, which involved the fighting in the Barum area. The Australians followed the Mosa and Kabenan Rivers, from Kankiryo, on Shaggy Ridge, towards Kaliko and then Kul, on the coast. While the fighting was mostly carried out by Australian patrols, they were assisted by elements from the American 32nd Division, which had landed by small craft in the Bonggu–Kaliko areas.
