Description

South Vietnam. 1969-08. Five officers from the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) examine captured Viet Cong (VC) equipment after a successful night ambush by 3 Troop, B Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, on the coast of south-eastern Phuoc Tuy Province. Left to right: Commander of 3 Troop, Captain Ray Devere of Penola, SA; Commander of 1ATF, Brigadier C. M. I. Pearson of Deakin, ACT; Second Lieutenant (Snow) Ballance of Taumarunui, NZ; Officer Commanding, B Squadron, Major (Maj) Ron Rooks of Canberra, ACT; Task Force Intelligence Officer, Maj Paul deCure of Watson, ACT. In the engagement twelve VC were killed, another enemy later surrendered.
