Description

Studio portrait of five soldiers posing playfully, making faces and affecting poses. Seated on the left posing as Napoleon is Private (Pte) Wilfred Thomas Braithwaite, Depot, of Richmond, Vic. He enlisted on 5 July 1915, but was discharged at Broadmeadows on 30 August 1915 as medically unfit and did not serve overseas. Standing behind him is his brother 6586 Driver (Dvr) Harold Stanley Braithwaite, 11th Battery, 4th Field Artillery Brigade, of Richmond, Vic. Dvr Braithwaite enlisted on 7 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire on 18 November 1915. He later transferred to the 4th Battery, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade and returned to Australia on 11 September 1917 while serving with No. 1 Hospital Ship. The other men are unidentified.
