Family and friends at a railway station farewell some soldiers off to serve overseas. The soldiers are probably the 2nd Reinforcements of the 35th Battalion, who embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 4 September 1916. The band plays as they leave; the soldiers are waving goodbye and the battalions flag is swung out the window as the train pulls off.
