German cloth forage cap badge : Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Police)
Description
German Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Police) embroidered cloth badge for wear on a forage cap. The badge is machine embroidered in white and navy blue cotton on black fabric, and shows a vertical oval shaped laurel wreath, on which is superimposed a German eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle's talons hold a circular wreath containing a swastika.
History / Summary
The fire fighting services of Nazi Germany were not an independent body, but were controlled by the Police service (thus the term 'Feuerschutzpolizei', or 'Fire Police'). Many of its members were female, since fit men were urgently required in combat roles. This badge would have been worn on the front of the blue forage cap which was part of the Fire Police uniform.
