Description

The destroyer HMAS Warrego at anchor in the harbour. Note the awnings providing protection from the sun and the number 70 painted on the starboard side. Along with HMAS Parramatta and Yarra, the Warrego was on her way from Sydney to Europe, where the British required reinforcements to counter attacks by enemy submarines. The second division of the destroyer flotilla (HMAS Swan, HMAS Torrens and HMAS Huon) joined them on 7 July in the Cocos Islands; from there all sailed for Malta.
