Description
Full set of handcrafted chess pieces.
History / Summary
These chess pieces were made in Changi Prisoner of War Camp by NX27117 Gunner W (Bill) A Bryant who enlisted in 2/15 Field Regiment on 24 June 1940. He served with the regiment in the Malayan campaign of 1941-1942 and was captured by the Japanese. The pieces were made from a broom handle turned on an improvised lathe. One set of chess men has been left in natural brown wood, the other dyed green using vegetable dyes.
