Description
A sketch map of the northeast part of New Britain showing Simpsonhafen (Simpson Harbour) and Matupi Harbour, which were bases for the Germans. Made for reconnaissance purposes, the map was carried on board HMAS Sydney while she was in the Pacific islands. HMAS Sydney was one of a flotilla that searched here in August 1914 for German warships and for the location of the wireless station near Rabaul, without success.
