Street scene, Bahrain
City buildings in Bahrain. Peter Churcher recalled, "I just wanted to do a little painting in Bahrain itself in the general area that I was in so I took my boards down to the market place in Bahrain in the late afternoon. I started work in the late afternoon and painted until dusk and tried to capture the particular light. There was a crowd of people looking over my shoulder. The culture in the Middle East is that everything closes down about 1 o'clock and re-opens about 5 until 11 in the evening. I had to work with people around me. When I started painting they came out into the streets and were fascinated with what I was doing. They huddled quite close around me. They were bringing me cups of hot tea. It was a nice friendly atmosphere. The people were very quiet. They were in awe of me. I don't think they had ever seen anyone painting a picture before."
