A.I.F. Race Meeting
Description
During wartime, it has become a common practice to recreate certain important Australian sporting events overseas. For example in 1943 a 'Brownlow Medal' was presented to Corporal Leslie Allan 'Peter' Chitty while in Changi POW Camp. This poster represent a similar phoenomenon: an AIF race meeting held at the 'New Flemington Track' in the small Palestinian village of Barbara, located 17km outside Gaza. The seven races held held were all named for famous Australian horse races including the Caufield Cup and the Morphetville Stakes.
