Letters, telegrams and POW postcards written by VX46415 Driver Edward Foster ('Ted') Hutchinson to his family while serving in Malaya (1941-1942) with 1 Company, Petrol Section, Australian Army Service Corps, and subsequently as a Japanese POW in Malaya and Osaka POW Camp, Tasho Sub-camp, Japan (1942-1945). Also includes official wireless messages from Dvr Edward Foster ('Ted') Hutchinson and other correspondence from Australian Army and Japanese authorities, relating to his captivity. A number of associated letters relate to the death in captivity of VX44874 Private Rowan Noel Mellor on 27 April 1942. The bulk of Dvr Hutchinson's correspondence, addressed to his mother, details his service in Malaya in 1941 makes reference to the altered role of his unit (as riflemen) in the defence of Singapore Island after 2nd February 1942.
