Demonstration: Back at Work
During the Second World War, the British Ministry of Information created or commissioned exhibitions to boost morale, and spread knowledge about war-related subjects, such as the role of other Allied nations, life saving at sea, rehabilitation, and equipment used by different branches of the armed forces. This poster was designed for the 1944 touring exhibition 'Demonstration: Back at Work', which sought to illustrate how people living with a disability could re-enter the workforce. One known location for this touring exhibition was in Manchester, UK.
The poster itself depicts a man in a white coat, working on a lathe, while holding a caliper in the prosthetic limb that has replaced his right forearm and hand. Beneath the image is the title of the show and a brief description. The lowest fifth of the poster is blank to allow for institutions to add their own details about where and when the exhibition was held.
