Group portrait of six members of the South Australian Mounted Rifles. They are probably the Mount Gambier members of the South Australian Contingent which went to England in 1897 for the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee. On their uniform, which is khaki with red facings, is the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee medal. Identified, from left to right, back row: 1117 L/Cpl A J Kilsby; 460 Private C T Major; 459 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) James McIntosh McGillivray (MacGillivray). Front row: 688 Pte R J Kilsby; Captain H L D Wilson, second in charge of the contingent; 807 Pte K MacIntosh. RSM McGillivray died while serving in South Africa during the Boer War at Vankollensfontein on 21 July 1901.
