Description
The third stage of the barrage in the battle of Hamel, showing the heavy concentration of fire on the right and German flares going up in the centre. 'Hamel was really a big battle reduced to a small scale. There was massed artillery; there were new mobile tanks; there was a most detailed scheme of aeroplane cooperation from the drowning by bomb dropping of the noise of the approaching tanks to the carriage forward by air of machine gun ammunition after the battle'.
