Description

Known as the 'Sisophon Express', this train full of returning refugees finishes its journey just outside Phnom Penh, having travelled from Sisophon with 331 refugee families from the Thai border camps on a journey that took 13 hours. A number of refugees are standing on the roof of the train while family members, Red Cross, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and CARE International staff and members of the Ghanese military contingent of United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) wait by the side of the track to transport the refugees to the UN reception centre at Phnom Penh. The Repatriation Component of UNTAC was responsible for the repatriation and resettling of 370,000 Cambodian refugees located in Thai border camps from April 1992 until March 1993, with only one fatality recorded
