"Victory to the Marathas."
Description
An Indian recruitment poster depicting an Indian army soldier in a trench reaching into an ammunition pouch to load his rifle; his rifle points over the top of a pile of sandbags toward the enemy. The title refers to the Marathas, a group of Hindu warriors who came to international prominance during the First World War with the Maratha Light Infantry; one of the oldest regiments of the Indian Army, it was known for representing many of the military qualities of the Marathas.
