A combined UN Civilian Police group. Identified, from left to right: Sandra Hoffschildt of Australia; Ranghi Maniapoto of New Zealand; Beverly Trumble of the United States; Chris Meagher of Australia; Martin Hess of Australia; Shaun Bennets of Australia. The Australian Federal Police contingent provided police monitors, election support, and military liaison as part of the UN Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) supervision of the referendum, held on 30 August 1999, to allow the East Timorese to choose between autonomy within Indonesia or independence.
