Parsons, Leslie Alfred (Sergeant, b.? - d.1916)
Collection relating to the service of 1168 Sergeant Leslie Alfred Parsons, 51 Battalion, AIF, Gallipoli and France 1915-1916. Collection consists of one letter written by Sergeant Parsons in which he describes the Landing at Gallipoli, and two letters from General [later Field Marshal Lord ] William Riddell Birdwood.
Biographical note: 1168 Sergeant Leslie Alfred Parson, 51 Battalion, AIF, who on 3 September 1916 was killed in action during an attack upon Mouquet Farm (Pozieres). Other biographical details concerning him are: hairdresser; of Korrelocking, WA; born O'Laddie, SA; educated at Fremantle Boys' School, and for a time assisted his father on his farm; enlisted in the AIF on 6 October 1914, and served with the 11th Battalion, until, early in 1916 in Egypt, he was transferred to the 51st Battalion; age at time of death, 27 years 3 months. A brother, 2001 Corporal Cecil Clement Parsons, MM, also served with the 51st Battalion, and survived the war.
