Buchanan, Harold Keith (Bombardier, b,1892- d.1917)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2004 Bombardier Harold Keith Buchanan, 39 Battery, Australian Field Artillery [AFA] . Collection consists of a typescript copy of five original diaries kept by Buchanan during 1916-1917. The diaries describe training in England and France, particularly around Etaples; anecdotal comments on the Somme Battles, Messines and the Hindenburg Line; and comments on the better conditions enjoyed by British troops, with disparaging remarks about officers. Buchanan was killed in action on 23 July 1917, just three days after the last entry in his diary.
