Collection relating to the life and Second World War service of NX15705 Corporal John Hurst "Jack" Edmondson, 2/17 Australian Infantry Battalion, Australia, 1940-1967.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection contains five letters from Maude Elizabeth Edmondson to [Ronald Sidney] "Ron" Grant who served with Corporal John Hurst "Jack" Edmondson at Tobruk during the Second World War. Corporal Edmondson was killed in action at Tobruk in April 1941 and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during a counter-attack against enemy troops. In her letters to Ron Grant, Mrs Edmondson reminisces about the old Edmondson family property "Forest Home" and her memories of her son Jack, as well as gathering photographs and other items to send to Ron, her visits with the families of men who served with Jack including Athol [Lindsay] Dalziel, John [William Harkness] Hedges and Bill Taylor, her ill health, and her intention to visit the local RSL Club at Liverpool.
Collection also contains one letter from the National Capital Development Commission to Ron Grant regarding a photograph of Corporal Edmondson that was taken at the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial, newspaper cuttings relating to the donation of Corporal Edmondson's VC to the Australian War Memorial and the death of Mrs Edmondson, one photograph of Corporal Edmondson's grave at Tobruk War Cemetery, 13 photographs of "Forest Home", one photograph of the inside of the John Edmondson VC Memorial Club, a small Memorial Club pouch, and souvenir publications of the John Edmondson VC Memorial Club (1954), The Harvester (1942), and The Country Show Annual (1942).
Collection also includes one letter from Susan Evangeline "Eva" Cotter to Ron Grant and his wife, North Ryde, 20 April 1961.
