Portrait of 4365 Private (Pte) John Lachlan Mackintosh, 2nd Battalion from Kogarah, NSW. A 21 year old grocer prior to enlisting on 13 September 1915, he embarked for overseas service with the 13th Reinforcements of the 3rd Battalion from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 20 December 1915. After disembarking in Egypt, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion and went with them to France in March 1916. He was wounded in action on 23 July 1916 on the Bapaume to Albert Road and died from his wounds the next day. Pte Mackintosh is buried in the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
