Description

Studio portrait of Lieutenant David Harold MacLean Sinclair, 2nd Light Horse Regiment from Winton, Queensland. A 30 year old station overseer prior to enlisting on 30 January 1915, he was rapidly promoted up through the ranks and then appointed a Second Lieutenant by the time he embarked for overseas with the 12th Reinforcements from Sydney on 30 November 1915 aboard HMAT Suffolk. While serving in the Middle East, he was promoted to Lieutenant (Lt) on 16 June 1916 and was wounded in action in Sinai on 9 January 1917. His wound did not require him to be evacuated and he was awarded the White Eagle 3rd Class (with swords) in February 1917. Lt Sinclair was killed in action on 20 April 1917 and is buried in the Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.
