Description

Studio portrait of 1732 Private (Pte) Roydon Hoadley Pinhey, 25th Battalion. A clerk from Sydney, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Pinhey embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Shropshire on 20 August 1915. After serving at Gallipoli he was promoted to Corporal and was initially reported as missing in action in France. A later Court of Enquiry determined that he had been killed in action 29 July 1916 at Pozieres, aged 32. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
