Studio portrait if 1947 Private (Pte) Samuel George Frederick Oakley, 58th Battalion from Warrnambool, Victoria. A 30 year old painter prior to enlisting on 14 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 3rd Reinforcements from Melbourne on 8 July 1916 aboard HMAT Ajana. While serving in France, he was killed in action near Bapaume on 6 March 1917. Pte Oakley is buried in Beaulencourt British Cemetery, Lipny-Thilloy, France.
