BOIKEN, NEW GUINEA. 1945-07-15. LIEUTENANT J.J. GARRICK, 2/6 CAVALRY (COMMANDO) REGIMENT (1), PLACING TABLETS IN THE MOUTHS OF TROOPS DURING THE "ATEBRIN" PARADE. ATEBRIN WAS AN ANTI-MALARIA DRUG TAKEN TO PREVEN MALARIA. IT WAS COMMONLY ISSUED BY AND TAKEN UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN OFFICER. THE ACTIONS OF THIS OFFICER WERE TYPICAL OF UNITS THAT HAD BEEN SUFFERING HIGHER THAN EXPECTED RATES OF INFECTION.
